Islamabad 04-05-2024: The “Tax Law Amendment Act 2024” Bill was introduced in National Assembly on 24 April 2024 and same was passed by National Assembly on 29 April 2024. Now the above said Bill has been passed by National Assembly has attained the status of law after signing of President of Pakistan. A number of changes have been brought in Tax Laws both in Administrative and Judicial Paradigm. The Act shall be called the “Tax Laws (Amendment) Act, 2024” and it shall, unless specified otherwise, come into force at once.

The amendments introduced in Sales Tax Act 1990 include insertion of new section 30DDDA whereby Directorate General of Law has been established which shall consist of a Director General and as many Directors, Additional Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, Law Officers and such other officers as the Board may, by notification in the official Gazette, appoint. The function of Directorate would be specified by the Board (FBR) by notification in the official Gazette, which would also include the specification of jurisdiction and powers of the Directorate-General of Law.
