Supreme Court of Pakistan Upholds Conviction in High-Profile Terrorism Case
Islamabad 03-04-2025: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reaffirmed the conviction of both accused persons in a significant terrorism case. The appeal, originating from the Lahore High Court’s verdict on April 17, 2017, was dismissed after thorough deliberation by a three-member bench comprising Mr. Justice Athar Minallah, Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, and Mr. Justice Shakeel Ahmad.
The accused were tried separately by the Anti-Terrorism Court for their involvement in acts of terrorism. Their convictions were upheld by the Lahore High Court, prompting them to seek relief from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. However, after reviewing the case, the apex Court found no merit in their appeals.
Mr. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, while delivering the judgment, emphasized the strength of the prosecution’s evidence, including eyewitness testimonies and forensic findings, which conclusively linked the accused to the crime. The Court underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those involved in acts of terror are held accountable.
This ruling serves as a significant precedent in Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism. Legal experts opine that such decisions reinforce the judiciary’s commitment to curbing militancy and ensuring justice for victims of terror-related crimes.
With the dismissal of the appeal, the convictions stand, reaffirming Pakistan’s stringent stance against terrorism.
